Goodbye iPhone… hello Nexus One! March 30, 2010 at 10:02 pm

As you all know I am a technology nut. I love all aspects of the tech world from software to hardware and all in-between. A few years ago I became infatuated with all things Apple. In 2005 I bought my first Apple product, an iPod. In 2006 I bought a Mac Mini and ventured into the world of OSX. In 2008 I bought an iPhone after much desire and begging of Rogers to carry it.

In the past year though my feelings have changed. In September I purchased a new top of the line Dell PC with Windows 7 and have had no regrets. Windows 7 is stable and sleek and works perfect for me and my needs. That was a big leap but the leap I made this past week was bigger. I purchased a Google Nexus One phone to replace my iPhone.

iPhone screwjob June 27, 2008 at 11:24 pm

For all my Canadian friends that are interested in purchasing the iPhone on July 11 I’m sure you have read the Rogers rate plans by now. And if you are a poor boy like me you are most likely as angry as I am.

For weeks after the announcement on June 9th there have been many rumors that Rogers would be consumer savvy and make their rate plans on par with AT&T in the US. At $30 per month for unlimited data downloads the iPhone is very attractive. If you have ever played with it you would know that the web experience is amazing. You can view webpages just as they are on your home computer. Heck you can download and watch YouTUBE videos. Thats a lot of data. The cheapest plan allows only 400MB of data download!!! I can go through that in a few hours. Thats ridiculous! The most expensive plan is $115 a month and allows 2GB. Thats incredibly expensive.

Cool stuff in January. January 21, 2008 at 8:15 pm

A few big events happened since the beginning of January that I haven’t had a chance to comment about. I have been meaning to talk about them but see my next post for the reasoning. The first event was the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the week after that was MacWorld . Since I am a technology nut I feel I need to comment on some of the things that deserve to be talked about.

My 2 cents on Internet Bit-Caps December 12, 2007 at 8:20 pm

It’s no secret that I am an employee at a major cable company in Canada. I have made that quite clear in my previous posts earlier in the year. And as a technical support agent taking support calls on Internet service I have seen both sides to the net neutrality debate.

iOpinion on iPhone October 4, 2007 at 1:01 am

Well as a Canadian I don’t have access to Apples iPhone. But as an Apple fanboy and a technology zealot I really want one. And over the past weeks Apple has really got a lot of heat about the iPhone and its business practices. Well if anybody cares here are my 2 cents.

It’s not the best just because I work there… May 10, 2007 at 6:58 pm

If you have been keeping up with my recent blog posts you know that I have started working at Cogeco Cable as a Technical Contact Representative. Well I you don’t know now you do. I just wanted to let you know how good they really are as an internet service provider.

Well lets test the waters. I posted the infamous hexadecimal key to encrypting HD-DVD movies. Lets see if the MPAA decides to sent me a cease and desist. I doubt it. They couldn’t take down digg.com so I doubt they have any recourse on me.

First off I’m a Canadian and the DMCA technically doesn’t apply to me. Yes I know it is still breaching copyright law but what do I care??

Apparently it snows in Canada!?! February 15, 2007 at 12:18 am

Ah winter in Canada, isn’t it wonderful!

Over the past 48 hours we here in Hamilton have got over 60 centimeters of snow! No kidding. Some people (like my mom for example) are baffled by it. Can you believe it? Snow? 60 centimeters? Yes mom it snows in Canada. We have lived here long enough to know that by now. Why are we so surprised when it actually happens.

There was one plus. Snow day!!!

Vista!!! February 11, 2007 at 12:30 am

Well Microsoft Windows Vista has been out on the mass market for close to 2 weeks now and I have been playing with the full release version for close to a month. And at work I have been selling Vista and Vista based computers for 2 weeks. Well, as for anything from Microsoft there is the good, the bad and the ugly.

As for my customers the response has generally been good. It is a cleaner, sleaker and more efficient operating system. My customers like the look and feel as well as the security features and parental controls. A lot of them just simply like that it is not XP and to be honest that is one of the factors driving me to it.

Goodbye Microsoft…. Hello OSX June 20, 2006 at 11:22 pm

Finally I have my MacMini!!!!!

This was a long time comming and I am now a happy man. I splurged and bought myself a dual core MacMini. It cost me $1200.00 but let me tell you it is well worth the price. It is sleek and well designed and the speed is incredible. Since I don’t have a lot of experiance with OSX to begin with it is hard to compare the power PC chip to the new Intel but let me tell you it looks like a good move!
