Ok this definitely qualifies as BIG NEWS!!! Sarah and I are homeowners! Yes you read that right. We just completed the final paperwork on Thursday July 9, 2009 and will take possession on August 5th 2009. More about that later but I want to get something quick out of the way first.
Very quickly I want to point out the new look and feel of the site. I wanted to make it look more “bloggy”, essentially putting complete focus on the blog itself.
I moved the blog to be the landing page and moved all the little gadgets and widgets I had on the old landing page to le right side. This way content is key and the little day to day meanderings of mine are de-emphasized. Now this means that I will need to blog more to keep the key content up but I really hope that can happen soon after I get possession of the house. I say that because now a lot of time is spent traveling between home and Sarah’s place and such. Now that I have a home of my own I don’t have to travel as much and I should have time to blog more. I still have some minor tweaking to do since some of the pages don’t look too good in IE (surprise surprise) bit its mostly done. Hopefully this is the last tweaking I’ll have to do in a long time!
Now back to the house. After a lot of searching online, a lot of drive bys and a few open houses we walked into 200 Clifton Downs Road in Hamilton.
We instantly fell in love with the hardwood floors and granite counter tops and modern look and feel. You could instantly tell that the homeowners have been renovating. There is an above ground pool in the backyard as well (even though you can’t see it in the satellite view)!
I really don’t want to get into the financial specifics but I’d say we got a good deal. The roof will need replacing this year and the windows will need to be done next year. The furnace is original to the house and could last a few more years if needed.
Like I said before the thing that sold the house was the interior. It is almost completely renovated which means it is nice inside. We can see ourselves living there and that’s what sold the house. We have another walk-through scheduled for Wednesday and I will take pictures and measurements for furniture that day. I’ll post what pictures I can online but I have to be careful because the owners are still living there and that would be privacy violations I guess. Either way you will see the inside and outside soon enough.
I really really really have to thank a few people here. I have to thank Wendy Murray-Nicholson and the team from Remax Escarpment. She put in a lot of time and effort to make sure Sarah and I got the best deal. Wendy spend a lot of time with us teaching us the ins and outs of buying a home and what to expect. I highly recommend her if you are looking for an agent in the Hamilton area.
Secondly I have to thank Mary Carey from Personal Choice Mortgage Services. She saw us on short notice and preformed miracles to get us a mortgage that was affordable. Without her and her team we wouldn’t have this house at all. I highly recommend a mortgage broker. They can do wonders, even better then what a bank can do!
Lastly we want to thank our parents. We wouldn’t have gone out and made this bold move without their approval and consent. Thanks for attending the home inspection and giving their honest opinion and for the future work they will put in helping us make this home better then it already is.
So for now I leave you saying pool party my place on Saturday August 8th. BYOB!!
